A new Month…..

I cannot believe that September is over and October is about to start….Christmas will be upon us and another New Year before we can blink an eye…..I will be very happy to see in a New Year as 2012 will be starting with a really big contract for me which is a great way to start a New Year and certainly much better than the previous few years , since the market in Dubai crashed in 2008. I am stuck indoors with a cold today, feeling very sorry for myself, but I am catching up on much needed paperwork and computer work as well as all my favourite blogs!!!

While I am still here, I have to say (without getting too serious and maudlin) that these past few years have posed several incredibly difficult challenges which I am honestly still trying to work through. By the end of December, I am hoping that most of the issues will be resolved and I can face 2012 with a fresh view and much more positive outlook.

Work -wise, the next few weeks are going to be very very busy and will involve many late nights! I will be completing my project on the Palace (which I mentioned in a previous post ) and tying up some loose ends in a few smaller projects I am involved in.

I will also be moving house…yes, I am still looking for a decent place to move in to……and I am also going to be looking for studio space-this is actually more urgent than the new apartment !! I have been approached by a furniture company from India who want to work with me on a painted furniture range and I also have several painted furniture pieces which I also need to complete for a lovely client in Dubai. My online store is almost live and I will post more about this later…..

So all in all, I have a busy month ahead and I cannot tell you how immensely grateful I am for this! This time last year, I literally had no work available to me so there has been enormous growth in my business life!

Now…if we could just get the cooler temperatures I would be blissfully happy!

what October looks like for us...

While the rest of the Northern Hemisphere enjoys Fall leaves and crisp , cool air, we start the day with thick fog, indicating (FINALLY) the transition from searing heat and humidity to our cooler months which make the Middle East perfect for about 5 months of the year!

Roll on winter is all I can say!

Glorious Colour……

With the temperatures slowly dipping here(and I do mean very slowly! We are all longing for cool weather now), my thoughts are turning to winter coziness…believe it or not, it can get chilly and cozy blankets and duvets are a must for cold winter nights.

This room really speaks to me with the gorgeous colours and textures….

I love the retro shade of blue combined with the pink and brown……the over sized headboard is just perfect and the zebra print rug finishes the room off  with a modern touch!

Kelly Wearstler’s boutiques……

The uber talented creative force that is Kelly Wearstler has recently launched a line of clothing and she now  also has ready-to-wear and accessory boutiques in Bergdorf Goodman, Nieman Marcus and Holt Renfrew which were all launched last week.

I love the colours and that fabulous turquoise vase at the back of the sofa is sublime! Check out the screen….and need I mention the velvet sofa?

What an incredibly versatile woman she is – I have loved her decor and design style since I first laid eyes on her gorgeous book Modern Glamour. She then released a second book called Domicillium Decoratus (my personal favourite) and a third book called Hue.

Not satisfied with just doing that, she has  designed a range of fabrics and rugs, tableware and home decor acessories and now a line of clothing and fashion accessories!

What will she do next? I cannot wait to find out…she is an inspiration to working women all over the world and particularly in the creative field…..I also believe that if you have a creative mind, you are able to design just about anything…the basic rules of design are the same whether you are designing furniture, textiles or shoes! Its just the technical information which differs but the basics are the same, as Ms Wearstler so competently proves.

Wedded Bliss…..

While chatting to an old friend this morning, I was given this amazing site to look at ….it was her niece’s wedding photos and I was absolutely blown away. The whole concept was designed by the bride, who is incredibly creative and who has her own business- “Cupcakes by Taryn” .

Her Facebook page is full of the yummiest photos of her decadent cupcakes…….but back to the wedding. With help from members of her family, the bride put this inventive wedding together, full of personal and meaningful touches which I believe make a wedding truly special to all who attend. It was not a huge wedding-about 60 people I think, but it was really big on style and spectacular ideas! I loved it and asked her permission to show a few images  on my blog….take a look….

This was such a great idea for guests….and each guest got to take home the white fleece blanket as a wedding favour!

An ice cream parlour..I mean seriously!!! What a great idea for a desert ………..

The happy couple….the dress was made by the mother of the bride and the bride and bridesmaids bouquets were made by my friend….this is one talented family let me tell you…

I just adore the white paper lanterns hanging from the roof of the veranda…the reception was held in the bride’s mother’s garden and I think this might be the veranda of their house….just darling!

What would a garden celebration be without Pimms? Aren’t the “glasses” lovely?

Simple and yet so effective……

Congratulations Taryn and Robin….a beautiful wedding with a sophisticated country feel…..it looked like such a memorable day!
