This image combines a host of my favourite things….great view, lots of natural light, a ginger jar, white orchids, a tray set up for cocktail hour, Bombay Sapphire Gin , gold leaf and piles of books!! What more could a girl ask for?
As each day of the hot Dubai summer drags slowly by, I find myself yearning for this….
I have discovered the most beautiful blog on Tumblr which showcases gorgeous images of England….I could spend hours and hours looking at this site and literally had to tear myself away!
I mean seriously, when can I move in?

Even on a stormy day, I would be happy to be there!
There are some really beautifully captured images on this site, and I would recommend a visit immediately!
Is there such a thing?
I have been thinking recently about a lot of the images posted on blogs and in magazines…so many of the images are of rooms which are beautifully decorated, immaculately coordinated and primped and styled to within an inch of their lives….yet they are soulless.
By this I merely mean that they do not look lived in at all..one has no indication of who lives in the space , what their interests may be or what they like or dislike. I find this a bit disturbing to say the least…it is all well and good to live in a neat and tidy space, but to have no indication of one’s personality injected into the room might deliver a beautiful space in a technical sense, but in my humble opinion, it leaves the viewer wanting more .
One of my all time favourite apartments ever is that of Kate and Andy Spade.Their space is filled with character in the form of well-chosen furniture, art and accessories, yet none of it looks “designed” but rather a collection amassed over time and with each piece chosen with thought and consideration.
Imagine my delight at finding these vibrant images of their Hamptons home…which, in essence, appears to be the same as their New York apartment.
Just look at the exterior shots of this gorgeous home…..
I would love to visit for a weekend…it looks like a great house for a fabulous getaway with interesting people!
It’s been a busy week of the usual rushing about…the heat and humidity is really exhausting and the constant temperature changes as you jump into a car, switch on the A/C, travel to wherever you are going, jump out into the heat…rush into an icy building, have the meeting, then back out into the heat and obviously a super hot car…. then the car eventually cools down and then you are just getting used to the temperature when you are back out into the heat again at the next appointment! It really takes it out of you, resulting in one arriving home feeling like a wet rag…literally!
I have been taking great comfort in reading one of my favourite magazines from South Africa, House and Leisure-it is winter in South Africa of course, so the decor reflects the season with lovely rich colours and gorgeous wintry vistas!
This contemporary home in particular, caught my eye- the lines are just beautiful and I love the simple colour scheme….

With the summer heat in full swing…I find myself drawn to images such as this one:
I can just smell the scent of the roses and feel the damp grass under my feet….
I finally got to see this film this weekend…..
It was absolutely spectacular…the music, the fashion, the decor, the jewelry, the scenery…I was blown away and I felt like the minute it was over, I could have watched it again to see what I had missed the first time.
Baz Lurhman does an incredible job of blending the 1920’s style and atmosphere with really modern music which makes the whole story very up to date and fresh…
The decor was divine…from the ” old money” taste of the Buchanan mansion to the over the top excess of the Gatsby mansion, the houses and rooms were all characters which played their own part in this amazing movie. Even Nick Carraway’s cottage played its own unique part in the story and the scene where Daisy visits for tea is just exquisite ,with the room filled with orchids by Gatsby…who eagerly awaits her arrival.
The fashion…don’t even get me started on the fashions! The men were all very groomed and beautifully dressed of course, but it was the women who really shone…literally..in Tiffany jewels and the most exquisite dresses I have ever seen…the softly textured and coloured fabrics were covered in sequins, feathers and crystals and moved beautifully as the actresses moved.
Each scene was a delight to see, even the darker scenes, which offered a contrast to all the sparkle and glitter. I have read that there have been a lot of negative reviews for the film…perhaps it will not be viewed as a masterpiece of film making from a critics point of view, but from a sheer entertainment point of view, Baz Lurhman in my humble opinion, has nailed it! I was entertained from start to finish and was taken on a glittering , sparkling journey into a make believe world, and is that not why we go to the movies in the first place?
