We have just finished a lovely 4-seater table and 4 chairs..this time not for a client, but for sale.
They started life dark brown and rather boring and have ended up light and fresh, with grey and white upholstered seats…I am thrilled with how they turned out and I hope they find a good home soon

We have also just finished some pieces for a lovely client…these were heavy and dark Arabic style furniture and with a coat of ivory paint and lightly distressed, they look amazing.

This caught my eye while reading a few blogs last night- seriously, how feminine and pretty is this decor?
From the washed floor, to the stylish chair and the simple white desk…the balance of colours and textures really appeal to me. I am generally not a fan of “pastel”wall colours, but this all works beautifully!
A few people have asked me about the furniture we refurbish….I thought I would show a before and after of the most recent furniture which we painted.

This cabinet was a fairly dark and heavy wood and my client wanted to move to to her daughter’s room which was light and pretty, with some existing white furniture already in place ,so we completely stripped off the varnish/stain and painted it white. After the paint had dried , we distressed certain areas and then sealed the whole piece with a soft wax and buffed it to a lovely sheen.

And the final finish looked like this…

I loved how it turned out and my client was equally as thrilled.
We also refurbished a couple of other pieces for her….

This lovely Indonesian cabinet was also quite dark and heavy so we lightened it up and this is how it turned out…

For some strange reason, I did not get a picture of the whole cabinet-just the details….
We also did a console table in her entrance…it turned out really well!

Even though I have been doing this for a very long time, I am constantly amazed at the difference paint makes..
I wanted to share a few pieces of furniture we finished recently….my client wanted a white beach-y look, distressed and aged, with a bold colour used on the interior of the armoire and the drawers…I think it worked out really well and she was thrilled with the results!

I am always happy when I re-do furniture for clients – it is eco-friendly, works with the whole philosophy of recycle and re-use and best of all, it saves clients a lot of money. Refurbishing old or existing furniture costs about half of what new furniture would cost and is so much better for the planet! Painted furniture is also hugely popular at the moment and is really on trend, so one piece will update the look of the decor in a room completely.
I always use non-toxic water based paints and wherever possible, I use waxes and not varnishes as a sealer. Painted furniture adds character and texture to your home and the fact that all of our finishes are hand done, adds an artistic feel to the home.
I have been very neglectful about posting lately…..with good reason though….I am madly busy with work and unfortunately some things have to take a back seat-the blog being one of them.
I do, however, have a sneak peek of what I am working really hard on…..
This….
This is a sample board for the ceiling project I am currently working on….literally back-breaking work as we are hand painting the design-very hard on the neck! It is also almost an hour drive each way from where I live so I am spending and inordinate amount of time in the car…..such a waste of time!
It seems to be going well and I hope to be able to post images of the completed work soon….

My client was very happy with the result and so was I…..I love all the colours…greige and ivory…very neutral and also easy to live with.
